A trio of Gold’s for Glengoyne at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Posted on 01 Apr 2016 by Glengoyne Distillery

The unique, complex flavours of Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky have won the brand a trio of Gold medals at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Beating off stiff competition from over 1700 other spirits across the board, the Glengoyne 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and Cask Strength expressions were all awarded Gold.

Now in its 16th year, the world famous competition took place over three days from 17 - 20 March in downtown San Francisco. The competition involves a panel of nationally recognised industry experts blind tasting the entries to ensure impartiality and competitive integrity.

Commenting on the awards, Neil Boyd, Commercial Director of Malts for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “It is a great pleasure to be awarded Gold for three of Glengoyne’s expressions, particularly as the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is one of the industry’s most highly regarded events, and the tasting is carried out by some of the world’s leading whisky connoisseurs who boast the finest palates.

“Glengoyne is nursed through the slowest stills in Scotland and matured in the finest oloroso sherry casks, so it’s very rewarding that our craftsmanship has been recognised.”

Glengoyne Distillery is owned by one of Scotland’s leading independent, family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers. It is highly regarded as Scotland’s most beautiful distillery.

Glengoyne, being uncompromising in its pursuit of excellence, runs its stills slower than any other distillery in order to create the rich, bold flavours for which the brand is known. The Glengoyne Highland Single Malt range is matured in the finest oloroso sherry casks from within its warehouses.
