St Andrews at the Savoy

Posted on 09 Dec 2019 by Glengoyne Distillery

Friday 29th November 2019 heralded the 7th St Andrew’s Day at The Savoy - a celebration of Scots in London, an esteemed fundraising event that Glengoyne whisky is proud to support.

The event has become a regular fixture in the calendar for Scottish diaspora in London and was again a great success, raising a fantastic amount for Maggie’s cancer centres in the process.

Once again the achievements of outstanding Scots were recognised with the Great London Scot Awards. Laura Muir, Jackie Kay and David Yarrow all picked up awards, and special recognition was given to Sir Boyd Tunnock who recently celebrated a knighthood at the healthy age of 86… We would personally like to thank him for inventing the Tunnock’s Teacake: a true Scottish legend!

As the event wound on into the evening, celebrities such as Eddie Izzard, Jeremy Paxman, Gavin Hastings, Alex McLeish, Lucinda Russell, Peter Scudamore, Fred Macauley watched - and participated - as a quite remarkable amount was raised for Maggie’s through the charity auction. Started in Scotland in 1996, Maggie’s now has 20 centres throughout the UK helping those with cancer, with the latest currently being completed in The Royal Marsden in London.

Glengoyne would like to thank all involved in St Andrew’s Day at The Savoy for another fantastic event that we were delighted to sponsor.
