Malt Maniacs Awards 2005 and 2006
Over the years the malt maniacs have collectively sampled and scored thousands of different whisky whiskies. Gradually we've grown ever more confident about our amazing organoleptic powers: all you have to do is pour us a whisky, and we will be able to tell you just how much we like it.

For many years we used our amazing superpowers for our own personal gain, but as we grew older, sadder and wiser we came to realise we had been given these powers for a reason; we were supposed to share our knowledge and opinions with the rest of the whisky loving world. So, in 2003 we organised the very first 'Malt Maniacs Awards'. It was a huge success, which convinced us we should stop worrying about our only weakness (our brains and our livers) and meet the challenge head-on in 2004 and 2005 again. We suffer so you don't have to. The Judging panel for these awards consists of 13 very highly respected judges from all over the world and an exclusive group of 24 Malt Maniacs in total.

Glengoyne was certainly the big winner of 2005. Sweeping away the opposition, the distillery took away two awards and seven medals including, two Gold Medals, three Silver Medals and two Bronze.

Ewan's Choice, the 19 Years Old Single Malt selected by Stillman Ewan Hendry as his personal favourite, won not only a Gold Award but was also the winner of the Highlands Award of Excellence. Judges commented that it would also have received the Top Sherry Cask Award, if the rules hadn't prevented the same malt from winning more than one award. The Glengoyne 22 Years Old, which was Stillman Ronnie Palmer's personal choice, also impressed the judges. Winning the Top Bourbon Cask Award and a Silver Medal, it was described as a bit of a closet 'sherry monster' by the judges. Duncan's Choice, the Glengoyne 15 Years Old also received a Gold Medal. Judges described it as 'Very complex but balanced ... with a delicate palate!'

Other Glengoyne Single Malts to receive accolade were the Glengoyne 15 Years Old Scottish Oak Wood Finish, Glengoyne 19 Years, Glengoyne 32 Years and the Glengoyne 37 Years Old Single Limited Edition Casks.

Glengoyne also performed very well in 2006 with Peter's Choice, selected by our Mashman Peter Andrew, winning the 'Dark Horse Award' (Ahead of the pack, off the beaten track).

The Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival
The Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival is the largest in Sweden, featuring over 300 different whiskies from around the world. The Glengoyne 15 Years Old Scottish Oak Wood Finish received the Gold award in the category of Best Wood Finish (beating Lagavulin Distillers Edition and Bowmore Darkest into Silver and Bronze respectively) and was accepted by Patrik Strandberg from Glengoyne's Swedish distributor, Philipson & Soderberg.
San Francisco World Spirits Competition
Glengoyne took honours at the 5th Annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2005 and again in 2007. The San Francisco competition is the most prestigious and highly regarded spirits competition in the USA. The Double Gold and Gold medals won by Glengoyne are a tremendous accolade! Glengoyne 17 Years Old Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky was also awarded Double Gold in 2003 - an honour reserved for those spirits that receive a unanimous vote for a Gold Award by the panel of judges.
Best of the Best
Glengoyne 17 Years Old was named "Best of the Best" in the Highland Malt Whisky category by Whisky Magazine in 2001. The whiskies were selected from the 293 tasted in the first 13 issues of the magazine and judged by 62 independent industry experts.

International Spirits Challenge
Before that, Glengoyne 17 Years Old was awarded the Gold Medal by Scotland's Master Blenders in the prestigious International Spirits Challenge 1999 and has just won it again in 2005!
