The Auld Enemy Dinner

Auld enemy dinner

Posted on 29 Jan 2018 by Glengoyne Distillery

Rugby fans around the globe are gearing themselves up for the oldest fixture in the world,The Calcutta Cup. Here at Glengoyne, we are no different and that’s why we couldn’t be more excited about once again being the headline sponsors of the sell-out seventh consecutive Auld Enemy Dinner (AED). Held on the 23 rd February at the stunning Balmoral Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre, the event celebrates the ceaseless rivalry, unsurpassed passion and age-old friendship of The Calcutta Cup.

In addition to the annual dinner being a much sought-after social event, full of rivalry and banter, the event has helped raise in excess of £500,000 for some extremely deserving charities. This year, all proceeds raised through the dinner and live auction will go towards the ‘My Name’5 Doddie’ foundation – set up by Doddie Weir to help find a cure to MND, and The Clock Tower Foundation.

Like the preceding dinners, some of the biggest names in the rugby world will be in attendance including Lewis Moody, Kelly Brown, Jim Hamilton and Mickey Skinner to name but a few. The hilarious David Flatman will act as MC for the night and Scotland’s most revered auctioneer, Willie Allan will conduct the live auction. To show our support for the incredible fundraising event, this year we are auctioning a Limited Edition signed John Lowrie Morrison (Jolomo) winter print of the distillery and have recently bottled a special edition pack of our 10YO expression named Doddie’5 Dram. This expresses our support to the ‘My Name’5 Doddie’ foundation, which is trying to find a cure to the devastating Motor- Neuron Disease.
